Builds are typically blacked out to keep it as a secret, because it gets them money easily (farming builds) or ladder ranking (GvG Builds).
The fact that the mini-missions are so pointless and irrelevant creates an air of irony.

It just sounds funny to me. 'Irony' is an unfunny coincidence, like when your dad's a firefighter and your house burns down, or being born in a graveyard.

The examples you give would more accurately be "cosmic" irony. Stating that Irony is "unfunny" is a gross error. Irony can be cruel, humorous, and insightful just as a few examples. In its purest definition (and most simple), Irony is: The meaning expressed is the opposite of the meaning intended. Sarcasm is the most frequently used form of irony, though not all irony is sarcasm. This simple definition has expanded to include concepts such as an event that is expected is entirely different from an event that actually occurs. Though these ideas aren't identical, they are close enough that the latter has been adopted under the umbrella term of irony (and it is a fairly big umbrella).

I've been trying to get a good score on the roller beetle racing, but the top 100 is filled with 470k+ scores... it's insane. Best I could muster is a 460k. At least I got a bunch of gamer points and vic tokens. Can't wait for the finale... presents. =D

I would have loved to play Rollerbeatle or Dragon Arena, but with the lag (even in international districts) it's not possible.
But I just had a funny moment on nine rings:

Then why do you care at all? Or is that the irony?

You have to pay to play every game. The difference is for most games you do not have to pay to continue playing. This is the entire point.
Expansions are sold to most pay-to-play games, and the frequency and cost of this isn't relevant to the issue.
Carry on..

Well, the grasps in most higher numbered districts were bugged (the score in several districts was players: 2, grasps: 960.) The quests were simply retempletes of last years. There were several inconsistancies (for example, the token collector mentioning that the event prizes were organized by Master Togo, who since this event happened after the events of NF and the rise of Kormir as the Goddess of Truth, Togo was dead for over 2 years and this was clearly an inacuraccy/mistake with the game's timeline).
People had so much lag that they couldn't even play rollerbeatle racing, one of my favorite things in this game (I wouldn't even load it, I would just get sent back to the town). There was so much lag during the finale that I had a ping of 77,000 ms (a 77 second ping!!!) and it crashed my computer.
With out a doubt, the WORST event a.net has ever slapped together.

I guess it's better than no event, but it is really laggy. It's so bad that you can't even do DA or RB racing. All the people afk'n on the 9 rings is probably one of the causes for all this lag. I think it's stupid to have an event if you can't even play the games smoothly.

The lag with this event is horrendous. I tried to participate in gathering celestial charges in shing jea, and its completely unplayable. There is lag worldwide, not just in shing jea. Rollerbeetle racing is completly out the question.
This makes me really concerned about the GW:EN release... are we going to experience similar issues then? How will ANet cope in GW2 with the new non-instanced areas?
Very disappointed GW fan here, and the loyalty I felt in the past to ANet is rapidly disappearing. Please, please sort this so I can keep playing what I believed until now to be the best online game around.

Horrendous laggage has been confirmed. It was better on Friday, though. Now, nearly every event is ungh, especially my fav, Dragon Arena.

I thought you guys(a-net) had fixed the present sniping problem with the recent wintersday event. When presents dropped, they were assigned to players in the district. This was a pleasent change from the previous wintersday where some people picked up hundreds of presents, and others 2 or 3. Last Dragon Festival had the same present sniping issue as the first wintersday, and I figured you would have carried the new wintersday concept over.
Now, I'm not complaining that i didn't get enough gifts, I did fine (not hundreds... not even dozens, but fine). I did notice that some people were gathering huge numbers of presents, by grabbing them from the feet of others (who were probably suffering from the afformentioned lag issues). If the presents had been assigned, like explorable drops, or last wintersday, a 77 second ping would be a problem for no one. Instead we have opportunistic players taking advantage of the misfortune of others because a simple concept wasnt carried over from a previous event. I must say that I am very disappointed. I thought you were capable of better.

I feel completely the same, and personally I dont see how the mask is worth showing off, maybe if we got the claws of that monsters too it would actually look some what cool. But its really meh.
I too am quickly losing my trust in Anet for what they used to stand for. And my loyalty is starting to feel a bit pointless.
Only GW:EN will tell when it comes to how they want to end this model of the game. And God forbid GW2 having problems like this.

Personally I haven't been able to get through much in game since saturday due to the lag. Got into a district today just in time to get my mask, then proceeded to lag out during the mini-game. I liked the concept of a re-creation and in my opinion the units created for this purpose were well done. They were interesting enough for me at least to want re-do the quests and missions. In general however, although I'm happy Anet continues to put out festivals such as this one, I am a bit disapointed with the lack of changes, (was hoping for better mission rewards, a GW:EN tie in at the finale, etc.) and with the lag which seemed to cripple not only me, but a sizable portion of the playing population.

Huh... I'm glad I'm not the only one who was getting completely scuppered by lag. I tried the festival missions but by the time I'd rubber-banded backwards and forwards a couple of times I was dead anyway.
Taking part in the celestial charge gathering was just a complete no-no. Even if I managed to ;space a charge I couldn't go anywhere, and then err-7'd straight out again. I didn't even bother waiting around for the presents, no point.

Nice! You ended up losing 100k or so at the end of the festival anyway, right?

No not really
I lost a little just to get my first lucky/unlucky titles, but I'll get all the money back by selling my Crème Brulées
